Now in the Shinaknsen is very much like an airplane. In fact, the way the slides on the tracks is so quiet and gentle, it feels like you're flying, but with a much better picture.
The seats are wider and offer more legroom. Services are purchased and can eat and drink to buy. Go sell it on the car rental agency to things. The food is good, but a little expensive.
You have to buy JR rail pass, you have a special treat for tourists. You can read all about this at this link.

It depends on where you want to stay in Japan. During the high speed train, known as Shinkansen in Japan, well, there are parts of Japan, which is not covered by the Shinkansen, or go too far with the Shinkansen. For example, from Tokyo to Sapporo, it is covered with the Shinkansen, and is flying much faster, but in Tokyo, Kyoto fast enough from the Shinkansen.
Sometimes, even with the train for long distances, which is sometimes good to take a plane, only its beginning and end.
But as I said, in general, Shinkansen trains are very comfortable.
It ... actually looks a bit like an airplane: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=h ...
It's an ordinary car. A green car (first class) has only two seats on each side of the nave and is usually almost empty http://inventorspot.com/files/images/ph_ ...
It is really nice, really.
If you live in the UK, have a high speed train at the National Museum of Railways in York.
Trains than normal, but .. more clean and spacious
